When do I book my flight? When to book your flights depends on finding the balance between securing the best options and protecting yourself in case of unforeseen circumstances. While we recommend prioritizing booking your safari spot first, especially during peak seasons, we advise against booking flights too early to minimize risk in case of cancellation of the safari. We recommend focusing on airlines with flexible booking policies that allow for easier changes or cancellations if needed. Travel insurance is also required to provide additional financial protection. Please get in touch if you are unsure.
-
Can you book my flight for me?Unfortunately not. At Delaney & Siggesson, we specialize in creating unique and customized safari experiences for our clients. We want our clients to have the flexibility to choose their preferred airlines, flight times, and seating options. By allowing our clients to book their flights independently, they have the freedom to use their frequent flyer miles and take advantage of any airline promotions or discounts. Additionally, booking flights directly also gives our clients the peace of mind knowing that they have full control over their travel arrangements. However, we do offer comprehensive travel planning services for every other aspect of their safari adventure, including accommodations, transport within the destination, guided tours, and wildlife viewing experiences. Our dedicated team is here to ensure that every detail of their safari trip is seamlessly coordinated and tailored to their individual preferences.
-
Do I need a Visa for my safari? It depends on the destination of your safari and your citizenship. For safaris offered by Delaney-Siggesson, most African countries require a Visa for entry. It is essential to check the specific Visa requirements for the country you plan to visit. Some countries offer eVisas or visa-on-arrival for tourists, while others require obtaining a visa in advance. We recommend checking the most up-to-date information with the embassy or consulate of the country you intend to visit. Remember to ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date and has enough blank pages for Visa stamps. It is always best to plan and obtain the necessary Visa well in advance of your travel dates to avoid any last-minute complications.
-
What does single supplement mean?In our safaris, accommodation is typically priced based on double occupancy, meaning two people sharing a room. A single supplement is an additional fee for solo travelers who prefer to have their own private room during the safari.

They can provide up-to-date recommendations based on your health and the specific destination.

What kind of clothes do I need?To ensure you have an enjoyable and comfortable experience on your photographic safari, here's a guide to the ideal clothing: Neutral Colors: Opt for neutral tones like khaki, beige, brown, and olive green. Avoid clothes with a camouflage pattern. In some countries this is associated with wars and can be seen as offensive. Lightweight, Breathable Fabrics: Choose breathable, quick-drying fabrics like cotton or safari blends. These will keep you cool during the day and comfortable on long game drives. Layering System: Pack layers to adapt to varying temperatures. Early mornings and evenings can be chilly, while afternoons may be quite warm. Consider a light jacket, long-sleeved shirts, and convertible pants that zip off into shorts. Sun Protection: Pack a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses with UV protection, and long sleeves for sun protection. Closed-toe Shoes: Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good ankle support are essential for uneven terrain and potential wildlife encounters. Hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes are ideal. Additional Considerations: Long Pants: While the weather might be warm, long pants offer protection from insects, thorns, and the sun. Opt for lightweight, convertible pants for added versatility. Swimsuit (Optional): If your safari lodge has a pool or offers optional water activities, pack a swimsuit for relaxation. Packing Tips: Roll your clothes to save space in your luggage. Consider using a laundry bag to separate dirty clothes. Pack a small backpack for day trips or carrying essentials on game drives. Please try to use a "soft suitcase" such as a duffel bag or an adventure bag rather than a hard-shell suitcase for your trip. This makes packing in the safari vehicle much easier and safer. By following these recommendations, you'll be well-equipped with comfortable and practical clothing for your unforgettable photographic safari adventure!

What type of photographic equipment do I need for my safari? The camera gear you'll need for your safari depends on your experience level and photographic goals. Here's a breakdown to help you decide: Essentials: Camera: A DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses is ideal for capturing wildlife photography. If you have the possibility, we suggest to bring two bodies just in case of mechanical faults but also due to convenience and speed not having to change lenses. Telephoto Lens: A good zoom lens (ideally 100mm to 400mm or more) or prime lens is crucial for getting close-up shots of wildlife while remaining at a safe distance. Extra Battery and Memory Cards: Pack plenty of fully charged batteries and extra memory cards to avoid missing precious shots. Additional Considerations (Based on Experience): Beginner Photographer: If you're new to photography, a basic DSLR or mirrorless camera with a versatile zoom lens (e.g., 18-200mm) can be sufficient. Focus on mastering the fundamentals of composition and exposure during your safari. Enthusiast Photographer: For more control and better image quality, consider a camera with a larger sensor (APS-C or full-frame) and a higher zoom lens (e.g., 100-400mm or 70-300mm). Advanced Photographer: If you're an experienced photographer, you might consider a professional-grade camera body with a high-quality telephoto lens (e.g., 400mm or 600mm) for exceptional reach and image detail. General Recommendations: Image Stabilization: Look for lenses with built-in image stabilization (IS) to minimize camera shake and ensure sharper images, especially at slower shutter speeds. Weatherproofing: Consider weatherproofing features on your camera and lenses if your safari destination experiences frequent rain or dust. Camera Bag: Pack a sturdy camera bag that can comfortably hold your camera, lenses, and accessories. Tripod: In general a tripod is not needed on safari. It can be useful if you are planning night photography in the camp or similar activities. We can help further! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions on this.

Are there a lot of insects on safari?Insects and Your Safari Experience: While Africa is known for its diverse insect life, you likely won't encounter overwhelming swarms of bugs on your photographic safari. Here's a breakdown to set your expectations: Depends on Season and Location: The number of insects can vary depending on the time of year and the specific safari destination. Generally, there are more insects during the rainy season. Focus on Wildlife: Your primary focus will be on capturing amazing wildlife photos. While insects might be present, they're unlikely to significantly disrupt your safari experience. Preparation is Key: We recommend packing insect repellent (especially for evenings and early mornings) and light, long-sleeved clothing for additional protection. Some lodges may also provide mosquito nets for sleeping. Our Advice: Don't let concerns about insects hold you back: The rewards of a photographic safari far outweigh any potential insect encounters. Be Prepared: Pack recommended gear and discuss insect management strategies with your doctor if you have particular concerns. Enjoy the Experience: Our experienced guides will help you navigate your surroundings and ensure a comfortable and unforgettable safari adventure.

Tips? Do I need to pay tips?Tipping is a common practice on safaris and a way to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of your guides and camp staff who significantly contribute to your experience. Here's a breakdown to help you navigate tipping on your Delaney & Siggesson Photographic Safari: Who to Tip: Consider tipping your main guide, any assistants, trackers, camp staff (waiters, housekeepers), and possibly the lodge manager (at your discretion). Tipping Amounts: There's no set amount for tipping, but a general guideline is $10-20 USD per person, per day for the main guide and trackers. For camp staff, $5-10 USD per person, per day is appropriate. Tipping Methods: You can tip in cash (USD or local currency) at the end of your safari. Consider bringing envelopes for discreet tipping. Important Note: Tipping is entirely voluntary. There's no obligation to tip if you feel the service did not meet your expectations. Focus on Enjoying Your Safari! We hope this clarifies tipping practices for your upcoming safari. Our priority is ensuring you have an amazing photographic adventure. Relax, focus on capturing incredible wildlife images, and let our team handle the rest!

How do we travel between locations on our safari? On your Delaney & Siggesson Photographic Safari, you'll traverse diverse landscapes in search of unforgettable wildlife encounters. Here's a breakdown of how you'll travel between locations on your safari adventure: Road Transfers : Depending on your chosen safari itinerary, there might be some road transfers to, from and/or between camps/lodges/parks. These journeys can be an opportunity to appreciate the vastness of the landscape and witness local villages or towns along the way. Some vehicles used for transfers might be closed vehicles offering a comfortable ride. Domestic Flights : For some itineraries, we incorporate air travel between remote national parks to optimize your time within a multi-park adventure. Most national parks have small airstrips that are often unpaved and basic, adding to the adventurous spirit of the safari. Luggage restrictions are typically stricter for these flights compared to commercial travel. We'll provide detailed information on weight and size limitations well in advance, so you can pack efficiently for your air transfers. Game Drives in Specially Designed Vehicles: The cornerstone of your safari experience will be game drives conducted in specially modified safari vehicles. These 4WD vehicles are designed for optimal wildlife viewing, often featuring open sides or pop-up roofs for unobstructed panoramas and photography opportunities. Our experienced drivers will navigate you through the natural habitats, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey. Travel Time: Travel times can vary depending on the distances between locations and potential wildlife sightings along the way. Your guides will keep you informed and ensure you have ample opportunities to stretch your legs and take breaks during longer journeys.

What is the typical daily schedule on a safari?Daily schedules can vary depending on the destination, wildlife activity patterns, and weather conditions. However, you can expect to wake up early for morning game drives to capture animals in the golden light. We either go back to camp for breakfast or decide to get a packed breakfast with us to enjoy in the wild. Typically in the middle of the day, when the animals are resting in the shade, you might have some downtime for relaxation or image editing. In the afternoon we enjoy our second game drive or other wildlife viewing activities. Evenings are usually spent socializing with fellow photographers, enjoying meals, and reviewing the day's captures. PLEASE NOTE! This is a typical day... On occasion we do change things around due to weather, special sightings or other circumstances.
-
What if I have dietary restrictions? We can accommodate most dietary restrictions with prior notice. Please let us know about your dietary needs during the booking process so we can inform the lodge or camp in advance.
-
Is there Wi-Fi access on your safaris? While many lodges and camps offer Wi-Fi connectivity, it is not something that we can guarantee. We recommend disconnecting and immersing yourself in the photographic experience, but some downtime in the evenings might allow for internet access depending on the location. Please get in touch if this is a necessity on your safari.
-
